Martin Rauch, a wide-eyed 24 years old East German soldier plucked from obscurity, goes undercover as a West German soldier for the East Germany Secret Service. Tischbier orders Martin to break into NATO head analyst Henrik Mayer;;;;;s hotel room to steal a secret report. He refuses until Tischbier promises to help his mother who is suffering from diabetes in East Germany.
